Silicon Insoles
Introduction/Overview:
Silicon insoles (also called silicone insoles) are soft, flexible inserts placed inside the shoe. They cushion the sole, absorb shock with every step and spread body weight more evenly across the foot. For people with diabetes, this lowers the pressure on the heel and the ball of the foot, the two areas where corns, calluses and ulcers often begin.
Our team advises silicon insoles after examining the feet, so that the insole suits the patient's pressure points, foot shape and footwear.
Signs & Symptoms
- Burning or aching under the heel or the ball of the foot
- Corns, calluses or hard skin at pressure points
- Thinning of the natural fat pad under the foot
- Soreness after standing or walking for long periods
- Redness or pressure marks on the sole after removing shoes
When to Consult a Doctor
- Foot pain that does not settle with rest or a change of footwear
- Numbness, tingling or loss of feeling in the feet
- A callus, blister or wound that keeps returning at the same spot
- Any open sore, colour change or swelling in the foot
- Routine check-ups for diabetic foot management
Treatment Offered
- Full-Length Silicon Insoles: Cushion the whole sole and reduce shock on the heel and the forefoot.
- Heel Cups and Forefoot Pads: Targeted silicon pads that relieve pressure at one painful area.
- Fitting and Follow-Up: Insoles are matched to the patient's foot and footwear, and checked at follow-up visits as they wear out.
Silicon insoles are a preventive aid. They do not replace medical treatment for an open ulcer or an infection.
